Melissa M Porcaro, BS, OTR/L, SIPT

I am an Occupational Therapist with over 25 years of experience working with children and adults. I graduated from Texas Woman’s University in the Houston Medical Center in 1990 with four years of experience in my field. I studied for several months to receive a Sensory Integration and Praxis Certification (SIPT). Together with a partner, we began a private practice in Houston, Texas in 1992.

After 8 years in business and two (of the three) children, I pursued a career in the “domestic engineering” field. This included many moves and world travel. During that time, I was afforded the opportunity to teach and learn alongside my children as we traveled within the U.S. and abroad.

After living in the Tri-Cities for over 9 years — observing the struggle families were having trying to find answers to their children’s difficulties, and with the encouragement from friends and other professionals — I began sharing my experiences within the community. CAN Do Kids, LLC was born. It is a pediatric clinic employing Occupational Therapy techniques with a sensory integrative approach.

I’m originally from Texas but have lived in Washington state for a very long time. To say I love music is an understatement…music is very powerful and healing for me, it truly is a passion of mine.

I don’t have children of my own, well, except for a big furry cat…she’s my fur baby. But, I truly feel like our children at CAN Do Kids are my children, my heart bursts with happiness watching them learn and grow and accomplish great things here. I am truly blessed to be a part of such a caring team at CAN Do Kids.

- I am a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant and I am excited to be part of the fabulous team at CAN Do Kids. My family and I just moved to the area and I am very happy to be here. I fell in love with working with children while completing an internship in the Lake Stevens School District. In my free time, I love to hike but I could spend hours just lying in the sun next to the ocean, a river, lake or even just the pool. As long as I am with my family, my dogs and have a good book to read I am content. I have a strong passion for being involved in the community and am eager to find ways to get involved here in the Tri-Cities.

– I moved to the Tri-Cities from a rural town in Vermont. I studied OT at Keiser University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Continuing to become a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant in 2014, I have gained experience and empathy working in a fast-paced pediatric setting. Passionate about the outdoors, Washington was a great fit for me, I enjoy camping, riding dirt bikes, and going to the mountains. Grateful for an amazing community and team here at CAN Do Kids, I work to keep parents informed while ensuring children leave feeling accomplished.

I have grown up in Richland, Washington my whole life. A couple of my favorite hobbies are hiking and traveling. Since they coincide with each other it works out perfectly. My next big adventure is going to be a volunteer trip in Peru so that I can hike one of the 7 wonders of the world. Machu Picchu! I am so thankful for this amazing opportunity to work as an OT aid at CAN Do Kids. Especially since I am pursuing Occupational Therapy as a career. I am planning on applying to EWU for their OT Master’s program next winter. I hadn’t yet decided what field I would want to work in before working at CAN Do Kids. After getting to play and work with the kids and see their accomplishments I was hooked on pediatrics and now I can’t imagine working in any other field. I am blessed to have a job that I love to go to and that feels like family.

Hi everyone! My name is Merina and I am so very excited to be joining the team here at CAN Do Kids! A little about me.. I have two sons ages 12 and 9 of my own, and 5 step-kiddos! So, 7 kidlets altogether ages ranging from 18-6! So very busy, and so full of joy! I’ve worked in the Medical field as a Medical Assistant for a local family Practice and have also worked for a local vision clinic in the past. Me and my family are always very active, attending sporting events, going 4-wheeling, cliff-jumping and camping in the summers and skiing and tubing in the winters! I’m excited to get to know and work with all you Parents.. And to make many more “FRIENDS”!
